The third (III) pillar of mastery, is to develop the emotional mind. This can be done with practice of the emotions, and will lead to more control of feelings and behaviors.

The word "emotion" dates back to 1579, when it was adapted from the French word émouvoir, which means "to stir up". It was first used as a catch-all term to passions, sentiments and affections, when it was introduced into academic discussion. Emotion was later coined in the 1800s by Thomas Brown and by 1830 the modern concept of emotion emerged for English Language. They are are a strong feeling deriving from circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. Emotions are responses to significant internal and external events. They can be occurrences or dispositions and either short or long-lived. Psychotherapist Michael was C. Graham describes all emotions as existing on a continuum of intensity.
We all have a certain emotional state that we are in at any given moment. Some days, we might feel calm and happy, while other days we might feel stressed or sad. There are many factors that can cause these changes in our moods and emotions, but there are also things that we can do to help ourselves maintain a more positive emotional state.

An unpleasant feeling or sensation that is triggered by a real or imagined perception of danger.
A brief mental state or response experienced as the result of an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing.
A transient emotional state, generally associated with negative moods and unhappy feelings.
The emotion experienced as excitement or waiting eagerly for something you know is going to happen.
A strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility.
A feeling of revulsion or strong disapproval that is aroused by something unpleasant or offensive.
The Emotional Mind is considered to be a state of mind. That are characterized by emotions guide in thinking, feeling, and behaving. This is one of the three states of mind that was coined by Dr. Marsha Linehan, founder of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The other two are Rational (or reasonable) Mind and the Wise Mind.
